Because SLEEP 💤💤

Before diving into a conversion, I highly recommend sleeping in it even in just your driveway for a night or two! We had to make a decision to sleep parallel or perpendicular while also considering the affects of un-level ground. We went perpendicular to provide space on both sides of the bed, the ability to easily flip our heads to the opposite side depending on the ground, and allowed for space underneath for our son’s bed plus storage. Jack welded a solid frame T bar with galvanized steel. We kept the built in bench seat for a couple reasons;

  1. Our bed frame has 2 piece slide panels that transition into a table where the bench is our seating.

  2. The bench lifts and allows for further storage.

  3. It is already fitted with 2 additional seat belts which has become my “legal” seat with Tripp taking the other actual seat.

The inside section is where we put Tripp’s bed, for safety reasons. So to close off where his head is at the back Jack installed some wood panel shelves for slide in storage boxes.

There are only a few windows, which sometimes sucks, but in reality we spend 95% of our time outside when traveling. I am a HUGE fan of blacked out curtains, the darker the room the better I sleep! Plus Tripp sleeps in better if he can’t “wake with the sun rise.” The windows are all awkward sized so I purchased regular room darkening curtains here; Room Darkening Curtains AMAZON cut them and re-sewed the ends to the size I needed. BEST decision ever! They make the inside feel home-y and provide privacy when the doors are open.
